Sheet Music for String Ensemble
This work has elements of early American folk and jazz music with its lovely fiddle-like melodies and syncopated rhythms. It opens with the melody stated in the first violin and then repeated in octaves in the second violin and viola over simple, syncopated harmonies in the other sections. As the melody evolves, sometimes as soli in the first violin, sometimes in octaves with another section, the harmony adds an under-stated, yet driving pattern of repeated sixteenth notes in the viola and cello sections. The unique harmonies and rhythms make Check Your Footing an enjoyable piece to play and hear.
